Western Formentera route
Cala Saona, Es Caló d'es Mort and the wild west coast of Formentera. Sheltered swims, dramatic cliffs and the best lunch stops on the island.
The west coast of Formentera is the route most guests fall in love with on the first sip of cava. From Marina Botafoc you cross the Strait of Es Freus in 25 to 35 minutes, depending on the boat, and drop anchor in the lee of Cap de Barbaria.
Cala Saona is the headline stop, a horseshoe of pale sand walled by ochre cliffs, water that reads cobalt from the helm and turquoise from the bathing platform. Lunch is at Es Caló d'es Mort or one of the chiringuitos lining the bay; bookings are essential in August.
On the way back, slow through the rocks at Punta de sa Pedrera (the natural pools nicknamed 'the Atlantis of Ibiza') and return via the southern cliffs of Es Vedrà for sunset.
